Because that software is configured rather than bought off the shelf, every company running it needs people who know how to configure, extend and support it. That demand is what an SAP course sells you into. It is not a programming fashion that comes and goes, it is a maintenance and change workload attached to systems that companies keep for decades.

The practical consequence for you is that SAP roles are specialised by module rather than by seniority alone. Nobody is hired as a general SAP person. You are hired as an FICO consultant, an MM consultant, an ABAP developer, a SuccessFactors specialist. Choosing which one is the single decision that matters most, and it should be driven by the degree and the work experience you already have, not by which course sounds most impressive.

How to judge an SAP institute before you pay.

Most of the differences between SAP institutes are invisible from the brochure. These are the five questions that expose them, and you should ask all five of whoever you are considering, including us.

Ask before you enrol anywhere

Do I get my own live system login, and for how long? Screen-share demonstrations are not the same as configuring a client yourself. Ask how many hours of independent system access you get and whether it continues after the course ends.
Who is teaching, and are they still doing project work? A trainer who left consulting years ago teaches the version of SAP that existed when they left. Ask what their last project was and when.
Is this classical or S/4HANA? A course still built entirely on ECC teaches a system companies are migrating away from before the mainstream maintenance deadline. Ask specifically which release you will be trained on.
What exactly does placement support mean? There is a large gap between a job portal login and an actual introduction to a hiring partner. Ask for the mechanism, not the percentage.
Can I speak to someone who finished the course last year? Any institute confident in its outcomes can arrange this. If the answer is evasive, that is the answer.

Certification, and what it is worth.

SAP certification is issued by SAP, not by any training institute, and it is booked and paid for separately. An institute can prepare you for the exam and can tell you which code to sit, but no institute issues an SAP certificate. Be careful with any that implies otherwise.

The certification that matters depends on the module. ABAP developers sit the Back-End Developer for ABAP Cloud exam, C_ABAPD. Finance candidates sit the S/4HANA Financial Accounting associate exam, and sourcing candidates the S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement one. Our course pages list the current exam code for each track. In hiring terms, certification helps most at the fresher stage where you have no project history to point at, and matters progressively less once you have two or three implementations behind you.

How long it takes, realistically.

The training itself is measured in months, not weeks, and the honest number depends on whether you are studying full time or around a job. Weekend batches take longer in calendar time and the same number of teaching hours.

What people underestimate is the gap between finishing the course and being useful on a project. That gap is closed by doing the configuration yourself repeatedly, not by attending more classes, which is why continued system access after the course matters more than an extra module in the syllabus.
